Salmon fishing started fantastic

On River Tornionjoki last days have been very happy for some anglers. Many huge salmon have been caught from the big river of Lapland. The biggest fish have been over 20 kilos.

Natural Resources Institute Finland (LUKE) started again the monitoring of salmon spawning runs into the Rivers Tornionjoki and Simojoki. The information that echo sounders have given, confirm that salmon run has begun exceptionally early this year.

“We have never observed as good start as this year. It is extremely interesting to see what will happen during the summer. When the salmon spawning run starts early, number of the fish that will come to river till the end of season, will usually be big.” Researcher of LUKE, Atso Romakkaniemi, mentiones that warm spring and suitable water level are the main reasons for so early run.

Salmon fishing has been good also on the coastal areas. This spring some trollers have been lucky to tame really big whoppers on the Gulf of Bothnia.
